The mid-1970s XL175 kept the economical 173 cc single and five-speed gearbox of the original. For 1976 Honda dropped the K designator and the tachometer and changed the fifth gear and rear sprocket. It remained a light, frugal dual-purpose bike suited more to roads and easy trails than hard off-road use.
